Zilla Young arrested after attempted performance in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Police caught wind of a planned takeover of a show in San Diego this weekend, prompting a response that resulted in several arrests.

According to San Diego Police Department officials, the Traffic and West Divisions stopped a group of approximately 200 people from targeting the following intersections on Saturday:


  • Genesee Avenue and Science Center Drive
  • Ruffin Raod and Ridgehaven Court
  • Fashion Valley Road and Riverwalk Drive
  • 2100 block of Market Street
  • Crop Route and Airway Route

The group managed to take over an intersection at Kenwood and Bancroft Drive in Spring Valley, causing an estimated $13,800 in roadway damage, police said.

Then, in the area of ​​Fashion Valley Road and Riverwalk Drive, officers heard gunshots as a white Kia sedan sped away from the scene. The vehicle was stopped and three teenagers were arrested. Police said an unnumbered “ghost gun” was found inside the vehicle. One of the teenagers was arrested and placed in juvenile hall.

During their response, police said “investigative personnel” at Harvest Road and Airway Road spotted the alleged organizer of the show – Calijah “Zilla” Young – along with other attendees attempting to block the road . The group reportedly fled the scene and was arrested several blocks away.

“Zilla” Young was taken into custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime of vandalism, display of speed, reckless driving, facilitating a display of speed and obstruction of his arrest. A passenger in the vehicle was also arrested for carrying a concealed weapon after a loaded firearm was found in his possession, police said.

The San Diego Police Department released the following statement on the attempted spectacle:

“Drivers who deliberately engage in illegal speed contests with motor vehicles, speed displays, including intersection or highway takeovers, motor vehicle stunts, and other similar intentional acts involving a motor vehicle, are extremely dangerous and deadly to human life. If drivers continue to willfully operate a vehicle in this manner, with wanton disregard for their safety and the safety of others, and as a result of their driving, if someone is killed, they may also be charged with murder.

The San Diego Police Department does not tolerate these illegal and inherently dangerous stunts on our shared roadways. These activities have routinely precipitated loss of life and serious injury across the county, state, and nation. Those determined to continue their involvement in these criminal acts will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
