How to play Ellen

You want to use Ellen's ice attacks as much as possible, as her kit is all about dealing massive amounts of ice damage, and to do that you need to create and consume Flash Freeze charges.

There are several ways to generate Flash Gel Charges, but the easiest and quickest is to perform a Charge Attack twice while Ellen is roaming. This will give her the maximum stack of six Flash Gel Charges. To enter Ellen's roaming state, simply double-tap or hold the dashboard button..

With Flash Freeze stacks now full, we recommend powering her up with other characters' abilities to increase Ellen's damage potential, then switching back to Ellen to perform basic attacks and quick attacks. This consumes her Flash Freeze stacks, dealing massive ice damage.

Unless you have a squad member with great support or anomaly abilities on your team, we also recommend activating Ellen's ultimate as much as possible, for a good chunk of bonus ice damage.

Ellen's Best Teams

Lycaon. | Image credit: HoYoverse

Ellen's best team is with Lycaon and Soukakubecause Lycaon is an incredible stun character with resistance to jagged ice, and Soukaku works great as an ice support thanks to the huge attack buff she gives to the character you switch to after using her Fly the Flag ability.

If you don't have Lycaon and Soukaku, there are general alternate characters you can use instead. Well can be used if you are unsure about dodging, as it gives shields to the entire team, but we do not recommend using it over other characters if you have trouble completing combat stages in enough time.

Lucy She's a great overall choice to increase any team's damage output, and also serves as a good secondary DPS, much like Rina, thanks to her penetration ratio buff that the entire team gains when her Drusilla and Anastella Bangboos are deployed.

Nicole is also a good free choice to help group groups of enemies together and deal free DPS damage, and Anby can help you with your stun and stun needs until you get Lycaon.

Best Hard Drives Ellen

Polar metal. | Image credit: HoYoverse

We believe that the Polar metal 4 pieces is the best hard drive set for Ellen in Zenless Zone Zero, as her 2-piece set increases her ice damage, and the 4-piece set increases her basic attack and quick attack ice damage even more. It's great for ice teams in general, as Ellen can take even more damage when a team member Freezes or Shatters an enemy.

You could use the Woodpecker 4-Piece Electro Set As an alternative, the 2-piece increases Ellen's critical rate, and the 4-piece increases her attack for six seconds after Ellen triggers a critical hit with her basic attack, counter-dodge, or EX special attack. However, its requirements are stricter to meet, so we recommend the 4-piece Polar Metal instead.

That said, you can pair the Woodpecker Electro as a 2-piece to increase Ellen's crit rate. Other good 2-pieces to use with your 4-piece are Hormone Punk for its attack boost, Electro Puffer to increase its penetration rate, and Jazz swing if you need more energy regeneration for your particular Ellen build.

Ellen's Best Weapons

As it is his signature, the The S-rank Visitor from the Deep is Ellen's best weapon in Zenless Zone Zero. She increases her Ice damage, Attack stats, and Critical Rate passively, and when Ellen hits an enemy with her Basic Attack, her Critical Rate increases even more for eight seconds. Additionally, when she deals Ice damage with a Quick Attack, her Critical Rate increases even more for 15 seconds, with the duration of these bonuses calculated separately.

If you don't want to take advantage of Ellen's signature weapon, the W-Engine, however, S-rank sulfur is a solid alternative, as it passively increases Ellen's attack and increases it further when she attacks with her basic attack, sprint attack, or counter-dodge.

As for A-rank options, as long as Ellen's crit rate is relatively high, we suggest using the Cannon Rotor W Engine. It passively increases Ellen's attack and critical rate, and increases her damage when she lands a critical hit.

If you don't have a cannon rotor or can't meet its critical rate requirements, then Starlight Engine is great for boosting Ellen's attack when she uses a quick counter-dodge or assist, and Street Superstar can also work if your team does a lot of chain attacks and you focus on triggering Ellen's ultimate.

Finally, as a B-rank alternative, the Lunar Pleniluna is actually a very solid choice, as it increases Ellen's damage when she uses her basic attack, sprint attack, or counter-dodge.

Best wishes for the Ellen building in Zenless Zone Zero!
