Yuki Tsunoda summoned for alleged ableist insult on team radio

Yuki Tsunoda has been summoned by the FIA for allegedly using a slur on team radio.

After the end of Q1, RB driver Yuki Tsunoda reportedly said: “These guys are fucking retarded.” He was summoned to appear before the stewards for “misconduct”.

Yuki Tsunoda Summoned for Alleged Violation of Misconduct Rules

The FIA stewards have summoned Yuki Tsunoda over a breach of Article 12.2.1k of the International Sporting Code relating to comments made on team radio at 16:14 – or during Q1.

Section 12.2 relates broadly to “violation of the rules”, while section 12.2.1.k refers to a very general category titled “Any Misconduct”.

In the past, the article was more specific in identifying types of fouls; the 2024 International Sporting Code has adopted a more general position.

Tsunoda was due to report to the stewards at 8:00 p.m. local time.

A video of the incident circulated on social media, showing a frustrated Tsunoda in the pit lane. In this video, the RB driver allegedly said: “These guys are assholes. »

There is some distortion on the radio as Tsunoda utters the alleged insult, while his team responds, “Yuki, no worries, no worries, plenty of time.”

The statement appears to be linked to Tsunoda's overtaking in the pit lane by Sauber's Zhou Guanyu.
