Yuba City stabbing suspect identified, arrested

A Yuba City man was hospitalized after being stabbed Thursday morning. Today, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) says a suspect has been identified and arrested.

The Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to Second Street in Yuba City for an assault with a deadly weapon around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 30. They say the victim was stabbed in the lower stomach.

SCSO says the victim was transported to Adventist Health with non-life-threatening injuries. They say the victim didn't know if the suspect was male or female and only remembered the suspect wearing a black hoodie. The reason for the altercation is still unknown, as SCSO says the victim is not cooperating with their investigation.

SCSO deputies and their marine patrol team are conducting extensive searches of the area for the assault suspect, but have not found anyone.

The next morning, Thursday, May 31, SCSO and Sutter County detectives were able to identify the suspect as Antonio Chavez-Alejandre, 37, of Yuba City. Chávez-Alejandre was then located and taken into custody without further incident.
