Yuba City man arrested after stabbing on Second Street, police say | News capsules

A Yuba City man was located and arrested Friday after a suspected stabbing incident in Yuba City on Thursday, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials say around 9:45 a.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to Second Street in Yuba City for reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. The sheriff's office said one victim was reportedly stabbed in the lower abdomen on the left side of the body. The unidentified man was transported to Adventist Health/Rideout Hospital in Marysville for his “non-life-threatening injury.”

The alleged victim told Sutter County deputies she wasn't sure who the suspect was, but remembered the person wearing a “black hoodie.” Officials said it was “unclear why the altercation started,” citing that the victim “was not cooperative.”

Following the incident, the sheriff's office said additional officers and the county's Marine Patrol “conducted a thorough check of the area” to locate the suspect. No suspects were located following this search.

After further investigation, Sutter County detectives and deputies were able to identify the suspect in the alleged assault as Antonio Chavez-Alejandre, 37, of Yuba City, the sheriff's office said. On Friday morning, he was located and taken into custody without incident.

According to online jail records, Chavez-Alejandre was booked into the Sutter County Jail on a charge of attempted murder, with bail set at $500,000.
