Young drunk driver hits fire truck, arrested, then released

As we reported yesterday, on July 1, 2024, at approximately 8:10 p.m., the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of Tramway Blvd NE and Montgomery Blvd NE. During this initial response, a 2013 silver Lexus with New Mexico license plate “DATBEACH” collided with an Albuquerque Fire Department fire truck at the scene. A dispatcher dispatched an additional APD officer and three PSAs to assist with this second accident.

An APD officer contacted the driver of the Lexus, identified as 19-year-old Isabella Haney, and observed signs of intoxication. The officer requested a DUI saturation unit, and an officer on duty for DUI arrived to assist. Sitting in the fire truck, Haney refused medical assistance.

According to the criminal complaint, she had bloodshot and watery eyes, a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech. She initially denied drinking alcohol, but later admitted to having had a drink earlier in the evening. She performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was subsequently searched and arrested.

PATREON MEMBERS CAN READ THE CRIMINAL COMPLAINT HERE:

Haney was transported to the Prisoner Transportation Center (PTC). At the PTC, Haney was advised of NM's implied consent notice and administered the Intoxilyzer 8000 breath alcohol test. The results reportedly indicated a blood alcohol level at or above the legal limit of 0.14.

After receiving medical clearance from Lovelace Hospital, authorities returned Haney to the PTC for booking and processing without incident. Haney was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) on July 2, 2024, at 3:23 a.m. As a result, she has since been released on her own recognizance (ROR'd).

Haney is currently only charged with driving while intoxicated (.08) – first offense. It is not yet known if she will be charged with the criminal damage to the fire truck.

“The fleet estimates the truck will be out of service for six to eight months,” said AFR Lt. Jason Fejer, public information officer.

Lt. Fejer said the AFR will rely on a backup truck until it is repaired and there has been no interruption of service as a result of the accident. There is no estimate of the cost to repair the damaged AFR fire truck.

Fortunately, no firefighters or people on site were injured.
