Young children found walking alone seeking help for mother who had been shot

GREENWOOD, SC (WHNS/Gray News) – Authorities in South Carolina are investigating the death of a woman after being called about a possible roadside shooting.

According to the Greenwood Sheriff's Office, the body of Kasia Dierra Simmons, 38, was found on Wilson Creed Road in the Greenfield area around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies said the 5- and 8-year-old boys were found walking alone on the side of the road.

Authorities said one of the boys told the person who initially called 911 that someone had shot their mother and left.

Simmons lived about 50 miles away on Willow Creek Court, where her body was found, with her death being investigated as a homicide.

The sheriff's office said the children told them a man, whom they did not know, was in the car with their mother when an argument began.

Simmons told the man to get out, but he put on a mask, pulled out a gun and told him to stop the car before shooting him, the children said.

The children also said the man pulled their mother out of the car before the shooting happened and drove off in the car.

Simmons allegedly told her children to get help and that's when a passerby found them and called 911.

Deputies said Simmons' car was found a short time later, but the man in question was nowhere to be found.

The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office urged anyone who may have more information to contact them at 864-942-8600.
