One thing is true among Coloradans, we love our guns.

A large majority of gun owners in Colorado use their firearms for hunting, with personal protection not far behind.

What makes a weapon “dangerous”? Probably the simple fact that it can cause serious bodily injury. However, some weapons do not belong to the public. They may be too dangerous for use by untrained people, or the government may deem them inapplicable for personal use.

How many gun owners are there in the state of Colorado?

According to our research, approximately 45% of adult Coloradans report living in a home that has guns.

How many weapons does that represent? Well, about 25.7 guns per 1,000 people. Approximately 150,088 firearms. This represents a lot of firepower in terms of quantity.

As much as we love our guns in Colorado, we don't compete with those in Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Idaho, and West Virginia. These states rank in the top five in gun ownership in the United States.

Texas ranks first in the number of guns owned in a state.

How many concealed licenses are there in Colorado?

For those of you who don't know, a concealed carry permit allows you to carry a firearm while it is concealed. Think about it under a coat, shirt, or out of sight.

In Colorado, you must be 21 or older to obtain a concealed carry permit, and you must take and pass a course to obtain a permit.

There are currently approximately 62,000 people authorized to carry concealed items.

Even if you have a concealed carry permit, the weapons below are completely prohibited from possession and you could face serious penalties if caught.
