XL Bully 'humanely destroyed' after attack on Welsh teenager

A teenager has been taken to hospital following an attack by an XL Bully dog ​​in Caerphilly. Gwent Police said they were called to an address in the village of Pontlottyn on Tuesday afternoon (May 28).

The force confirmed that officers attended an address in the village, alongside firearms officers and paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service. A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment, police confirmed, although his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

Gwent Police said the dog, identified as an XL Bully, was registered with DEFRA, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Law enforcement said the dog was “humanely destroyed” by a veterinarian, Wales Online reported.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called to an address in Farm Road, Pontlottyn, Caerphilly, at around 3.20pm on Tuesday, May 28, following a report of a dog attack. the Welsh Ambulance Service. Sign up to the North Wales Live newsletter delivered to your inbox twice daily

“A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. The dog, an XL Bully, was registered with DEFRA. The dog was humanely destroyed by a veterinarian.

This week in Hull, a five-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being bitten on the head by a dog believed to be an XL bully.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Investigations are ongoing after we received reports that a five-year-old boy was bitten by a dog at a property on Brazil Street in Hull at around 11am 45. The boy suffered a head injury. and is currently hospitalized receiving treatment. »

Detective Chief Inspector Allison Sweeting added: “We are working closely with the boy’s family and the dog’s owner to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this stage the dog breed is considered an XL bullying type and has been seized as part of our investigations.”

New restrictions on XL Bully dogs came into force on December 31 last year following increased concerns about attacks involving the breed. It is now legal for all XL Bully dogs to be leashed and muzzled when in public.

It is also illegal to breed, sell, advertise, give away, trade, abandon or allow XL Bully dogs to roam. The move came after 23 people died in the UK in the three years before the ban began.
