XDefiant Developers Promise Weapon XP Overhaul

XDefiant's latest update on June 18 sparked a lot of conversation within the community, most of it criticism regarding the Weapon XP update. Progression has been an issue in XDefiant since launch, and the goal of changing Weapon XP was to make attachments faster to unlock and camo mastery harder to achieve. However, players didn't like this change at all and the community made their voices heard on social media.

Today, Mark Rubin, executive producer of XDefiant, published an article explaining how they heard the feedback and will be making changes.

Although it hasn't been announced when this update will arrive, a few things will change when it comes to Weapon XP. First, primary weapons will now need 1,500 XP to level up compared to the original 3,000 XP, and secondary weapons will require 500 XP compared to 1,000 XP. In fact, this should make upgrading weapons twice as fast.

The levels you need to unlock a mastery skin remain the same, but the net effect is that this will undo the change we made while still retaining the 14% speed increase.

This means that unlocking attachments will be super fast, but quest for gold will be 14% faster than before the recent patch. This also means that everyone will benefit from a large increase from their current level.

This change will happen very soon and as soon as I have a specific date I will let you know.

Mark Rubin also explained why they made this change in the first place:

“The main difficulty we have in the game right now is weapon mastery. This is something we're working on and we're introducing new ways for players to earn exciting rewards coming in several future updates. Like for example, Ranked mode will come in Season 1. But since Weapon Mastery was the only difficulty we had, we were worried that players would reach the end of this task too quickly and that it would make the skins less special and less rewarding.

But here's the problem. We made a change while the game was live and people had already made efforts to progress. It was a mistake on our part and we will be grateful. And that's why we're going back and making it technically even better than before, because attachments will unlock much faster. What we should have done is stay focused on the new challenges and challenges we are working on. In other words, focus on what's actually fun for players.

While it's unclear when this change will happen, and if we'll get it before Season 1 releases on July 2, it's great to see XDefiant actually responding to the community and making changes on the fly .
