Wyoming mayor appears in court over alleged fake voter scheme

KENT COUNTY, Mich. – Wyoming Mayor Kent Vanderwood appeared in court Tuesday afternoon for his first major hearing after being indicted for an alleged fake voter scheme.

In total, 16 people face charges, including forgery, counterfeiting electoral law and use and publication.

Vanderwood is accused of secretly meeting with his 15 co-defendants at Michigan GOP headquarters after the 2020 election. They allegedly submitted certificates to the U.S. Senate and National Archives in an effort to award the state's electoral votes to their preferred candidate to President Biden, winner in Michigan.

On Tuesday morning, court officials heard from a senior attorney who works at the Federal Register.

“We received what appeared to be an attempt to vote for the state of Michigan, to vote for the Republican candidate on behalf of the state of Michigan,” says Mirian Vincent. “This does not come from the state of Michigan; it does not come from any official state office, state legislature, governor or SOS office, so it does not come from an official source. “

Testimony continued until late afternoon. This will continue on Wednesday. In the end, a judge will determine whether there is enough evidence to send the case to circuit court.

If convicted, Vanderwood faces decades in prison.
