Wrecks on I-75 in Bartow County | Several people injured

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — Several multi-vehicle crashes closed Interstate 75 south in Bartow County Saturday evening, according to the sheriff's office.

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office said on social media that I-75 south between mile markers 283 and 288 was closed. The message said several people were being treated for their injuries and that a Life Flight medical helicopter was responding to the crash. It is unclear how serious the injuries are.

It appears one of the crashes occurred at mile marker 283, just two miles from mile marker 285 and Red Top Mountain Road, where five people were killed following a crash on I-75 in the county from Bartow almost a month ago.

For alternate routes, drivers are encouraged to use the Allatoona Dam Road and Red Top Mountain exits in Emerson and Main Street in Cartersville to get around traffic as quickly as possible.

The sheriff's office did not provide an estimate as to when the wreckage will be cleaned up. It is not yet known whether the various accidents are linked or not and what is the cause.
