Woodlawn Arts Academy to Host Teen Writers Conference on August 3 – Shaw Local

STERLING — Woodlawn Arts Academy, 3807 Woodlawn Road, Sterling, will host a Light on Mental Health Teen Writers Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 3.

Admission to the conference is intended for adolescents aged 11-18.

Participants can learn how to use forms of creative writing to manage and improve mental health. The conference features fantasy, poetry, journalism, non-fiction, short stories and how to use writing as a tool to run workshops on mental health and wellbeing. Lunch will be provided.

Adults can also receive a Youth Mental Health First Aid certificate. Participants will learn how to help identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance abuse problems in children and adolescents.
