Woman who stole ambulance and escaped police identified

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 28-year-old woman was arrested after stealing an ambulance and starting a police chase Tuesday morning, July 2, in downtown El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).

EPPD said the El Paso Police Auto Theft Task Force was called out July 2 after an ambulance was stolen from Del Sol Medical Center at 10301 Gateway West.

Initial investigation revealed that Alasia Pamela Humber, 28, was at the hospital when she walked to the ambulance and climbed into the vehicle bay. She then fled the scene, police said.

Police said that after receiving the theft report, a police alert was sent to all units to be on the lookout for the ambulance.

At the intersection of Emerson Street and North Loop Drive, a motorcycle police officer observed the stolen ambulance and attempted to stop it. However, Humber ignored the officer and continued driving, police said.

Police say Humber continued to elude police and other agencies, including state troopers from the Department of Public Safety.

Humber eventually hit a rock wall at the intersection of Gateway North Blvd. and Altura Ave., disabling the ambulance.

According to police, Humber was taken into custody without incident and later transported to the El Paso County Detention Center. She is charged with grand theft auto with a $30,000 bond and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle with a $100,000 bond.
