Woman, Teenage Girl Wounded by Stray Bullets on July 4th – NBC 6 South Florida

A woman and a teenager were struck by what appeared to be stray bullets in separate incidents in Miami-Dade County on July 4, authorities said.

The 13-year-old was taken to a hospital in stable condition after being shot around 11:18 p.m. in Gladeview, Miami-Dade County police said. No additional information about his injuries was immediately available.

The woman was injured while watching fireworks around 10 p.m. in the area of ​​NW 9th Avenue and NW 4th Street in Homestead, according to Homestead police.

She was shot in the shoulder and airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center where she remained in critical condition as of 1:25 a.m. Friday, authorities said.

“At this point in the investigation, there is no information available regarding the individual responsible for firing the stray bullet,” police said.

The cause of the shooting was not immediately clear, but authorities urged the public to “exercise caution and follow all safety precautions when attending holiday celebrations involving fireworks or other activities that may involve gunfire. Please remember that celebratory gunfire is illegal and dangerous. Bullets fired into the air can fall to the ground at high speeds and pose a serious risk to public safety.”
