Woman, teen injured in back-to-back shark attacks on Florida's Gulf Coast

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WVUE) – The water was closed to the public Friday, June 7 afternoon following two shark attacks approximately two hours apart along Florida's Gulf Coast.

Both incidents occurred in close proximity between Destin and Panama City Beach. One occurred near Highway 30A and the second occurred at a cove beach.

The first attack was reported around 1 p.m. near Watersound Way and Coopersmith. The Walton County Sheriff's Office said a woman was injured and taken to the hospital.

A witness on X said the attack happened around age 75 while he and his children were body surfing in the Gulf.

“A lot of blood in the water,” he described. “It's not good.”

A second social media user allegedly took photos of a shark in the water around the same time.

The second attack was reported around 3:25 p.m. near Shoreline Drive. Authorities say a teenager was injured on several occasions.

Water has been shut off to the public in Walton County while investigations continue.
