Woman suffered facial injuries after alleged racist attack

A woman suffered serious facial injuries after an alleged racially motivated attack this weekend.

Lancashire Police reported that the victims, a woman and her friend, were approached by two unknown men in Penny Street, Lancaster, asking for a cigarette.

At 2:08 a.m., when the victims said they did not have cigarettes, one of the men allegedly became racist.

The victim and his friend were attacked and the woman, aged around 20, was seriously injured in the face.

DS Rachel Crossley, of Lancaster CID, said: “We will not tolerate this kind of appalling behavior in our communities and I want to reassure the public that we take this matter extremely seriously.

“As part of our ongoing investigations, we would like to speak to the person in the still. We are asking anyone who recognizes him – or the individual themselves – to contact police immediately.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

As part of an ongoing investigation, police would like to speak to the person in the photo in connection with the incident.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “Do you recognize the individual in the still?

“We want to speak to him about a racially motivated attack which took place in Lancaster (on the morning of Saturday June 15).

“It was reported that at 2:08 a.m. the victims were approached by two strangers on Penny Street who asked them for a cigarette. When the victims said they did not have one, one of the men became racist.

“The victim and his friend were then attacked. The victim, aged around 20, was seriously injured in the face.

“No arrests have been made at this stage. This incident is being taken extremely seriously and we have a team of officers dedicated to this matter.”
