Woman stabbed in New Jersey after being asked 'Are you from CNBC?' »

A Piscataway man arrested over the weekend for stabbing a woman outside the CNBC office in Englewood Cliffs allegedly attacked the victim after discovering she was an employee of the network, according to court documents.

Harshkuma Patel, 29, faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons possession following the incident that occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said . The victim, a 30-year-old woman, had just left the CNBC building at the end of her work day when the alleged attack took place, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by NorthJersey.com Monday afternoon.

Patel stopped behind the woman's vehicle in a left turn lane and approached the driver's side door. He asked the woman, “Are you from CNBC?” and when she said she was, he began stabbing her in the left arm with an “unknown dagger,” the affidavit states.

The woman, whose name was redacted from the affidavit, accelerated and began driving north in the southbound lane of Sylvan Avenue. The suspect eventually fled and the woman called 911.

Englewood Cliffs Police arrived and found the vehicle near the intersection of Sylvan Avenue and Sage Road. The woman, who was “actively bleeding” from several circular wounds on her arm, described her attacker as an Indian man driving a heavily damaged silver sedan, according to the affidavit.

Police learned that security personnel observed a suspicious vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla, driving through the parking lot several times before the attack. CNBC surveillance cameras captured the Toyota's registration, which traced back to Patel.

The woman then identified Patel as her attacker from a color photo provided by police, the affidavit states. She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries and released.

Patel was arrested outside his home the day after the attack, according to the prosecutor's office. He is being held at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus awaiting his initial appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
