Woman killed in Southeast Portland shooting identified; suspect in custody

Police on Friday publicly identified a 31-year-old Portland woman who was shot and killed last week in the Hazelwood neighborhood. A suspect involved in the shooting is in custody, police said.

Officers found Laquonda Fuller-Hudson dead in an apartment after responding to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of 146th Avenue Southeast at 10 p.m. on May 23.

A suspect is in custody at a local hospital and was injured after the shooting but before investigators found him, police said. The Portland Police Bureau declined to release the man's name.

Eric Fair, a neighbor, described Fuller-Hudson as “a very nice person.” He said that every time he saw her walking down the street, she smiled at everyone.

The city's last three homicides, including the fatal police shooting of a man who allegedly shot at them while they were executing a search warrant on May 6, took place in Hazelwood, according to police reports.

Three days before Fuller-Hudson's death, another fatal shooting occurred in Hazelwood, according to police.

In the past year through April, according to Portland police data, the only Portland neighborhood that reported more crime than Hazelwood was downtown.
