LONG BEACH — A woman was killed Monday evening in a fire at a one-story home in Long Beach.

Firefighters responded to the 2400 block of Fashion Avenue, near Willow Street and the Long Beach (710) Freeway, Monday around 7:30 p.m. for a fire with heavy smoke and intense flames, according to Capt. Jack Crabtree Long Beach Fire Department.

Firefighters later discovered an elderly woman who was pronounced dead at the scene, Crabtree said.

It is unclear what may have started the fire and an investigation into the cause is underway.
