Woman killed after altercation leads to vigilante shooting in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A woman is dead after an altercation with a co-worker led to a shooting in Rock Hill, and police say the shooter fired in self-defense.

It happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday at Riverwalk Parkway near Celriver Road. A woman was found with a gunshot wound. She was transported to Piedmont Medical Center where she later died.

A man was arrested at the scene but has not been charged, police said. Another woman, Brittney Reed, 32, was charged with assault and battery.

The shooting resulted from an altercation between two colleagues, according to police. The co-worker got into Reed's car while the co-worker got into his car and started to leave.

Reed allegedly drove in front of the man's vehicle to block him while he was stuck in traffic. That's when the woman approached the man's vehicle from the passenger side and presented him with a firearm.

Police said the man grabbed his own gun and shot the woman, hitting her several times in the chest.

Reed then punched the man in the face, but backed away after telling him to run, police said.

Based on the investigation, police said they were not charging the man because the shooting was considered self-defense.

Two firearms were recovered at the scene.

The shooting remains under investigation.
