LINCOLN COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) — A man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a woman's body in a wooded area in Lincoln County last week, according to a criminal complaint.

People walking in the Francis Creek area near Taunton Drive found the woman – who has now been identified as Marissa Brandjes, according to a criminal complaint – around 8:45 p.m. on June 24. An autopsy showed Brandjes died from a single gunshot wound, according to West Virginia State Police.

According to a criminal complaint, people said Brandjes was last seen in her vehicle with Tony Williamson, 35, of Parkersburg, on June 20, leaving Mingo County. He returned to Mingo County the same day without Brandjes, the complaint states.

Witnesses told law enforcement that Williamson said he shot Brandjes in the back of the head, according to court documents.
