Woman identified killed while crossing highway in Tuscaloosa

Brianna Shaunta Nelson, 23, of Tuscaloosa, was struck around 4:30 a.m. by a box truck while crossing the southbound lanes near Exit 1 of Interstate 359, according to police. A pedestrian has been identified after he was struck and killed on a Tuscaloosa highway Wednesday morning.

Brianna Shaunta Nelson, 23, of Tuscaloosa, was struck around 4:30 a.m. by a covered truck while crossing the southbound lanes near exit 1 of eastbound Interstate 359, according to police.

The driver of an SUV behind a box truck swerved into a second box truck, which then struck the woman.

Tuscaloosa police said Nelson died at the scene. There were no other injuries.

The Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash.
