Woman identified in fatal crash in north Colorado Springs | Traffic

The El Paso County Coroner's Office has identified the driver who died in a fatal weekend crash as Maroufeh Kazemi, a 53-year-old woman.

The Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Briargate Parkway and Chapel Hills Drive last Saturday at 9 a.m.

Emergency services arrived on the scene and the two drivers were transported to a nearby hospital where their lives are in danger.

The CSPD Major Crash Team also arrived on scene and took responsibility for the investigation. Investigators say one vehicle was traveling eastbound on Briargate Parkway approaching Chapel Hills Drive and the second vehicle was traveling westbound on Briargate Parkway. The second vehicle attempted to turn left onto southbound Chapel Hills Drive, and the two vehicles collided at the intersection.

The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced deceased at hospital and was later identified as Kazemi. The status of the first driver is unknown at this time.

This investigation is ongoing and speed is considered a factor in the accident, according to a press release released Friday afternoon by police.

This crash marks the 20th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs so far in 2024. This time last year, CSPD reported 19 traffic fatalities.

Over the past 365 days, there have been 51 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs, according to the department.
