Woman hospitalized after stabbing on Whittier Greenway hiking trail; suspect arrested

A woman was stabbed on a hiking trail in Whittier, but she was expected to survive, and a suspect was quickly arrested.

WHITTIER, Calif. (CNS) — A woman was stabbed Friday on a hiking trail in Whittier, but she was expected to survive, and a suspect was quickly taken into custody.

According to the Whittier Police Department, officers responded at 12:30 a.m. to a report of a stabbing on the Greenway Trail near Calmada Avenue.

“The victim, an adult female, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by first responders before being transported to hospital,” according to a police statement. “The victim provided a description of the suspect, who was quickly apprehended by officers and detectives from the adjacent neighborhood.”

The suspect was described only as a 35-year-old man whose name has not been released. Police said they would maintain “additional police resources in the area.”

It is unclear what motivated the attack.
