Woman, her alleged 'lover', publicly beaten up for 'illicit relationship' by TMC 'enforcer' at behest of kangaroo court in Bengal

A woman was brutally beaten in public with a bamboo stick, allegedly by a TMC leader, for having an “illicit relationship” in West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur district.

In the viral video, a man wearing a black t-shirt can be seen brutally assaulting the woman with a bamboo stick as she grimaces in pain while lying on her back in the middle of the street in full view of the spectators.

The man seen beating the couple is believed to be linked to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), with close links to Chopra MP Hamidur Rahman in Uttar Dinajpur district where the incident took place following a 'salishi sabha' (kangaroo court) order, the BJP claimed.

'Ugly face' of TMC regime, says BJP

The BJP alleged that the TMC was directly responsible for the incident which it called an example of “bulldozing justice” under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“This is the ugly face of Mamata Banerjee’s regime in West Bengal. The man in the video, who beats a woman mercilessly… is famous for delivering swift justice through his 'insaf' sabha and is a close aide of Chopra MP Hamidur Rahman,” the chief said. the BJP's IT cell, Amit Malviya, in a message on X.

Malviya claimed that there is a Sandeshkhali in every village of West Bengal and that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a curse for women.”

“There is no semblance of law and order in Bengal. Will Mamata Banerjee act against this monster or will she defend him like she defended Sheikh Shahjahan?” » said Malviya.

Shahjahan is an arrested TMC functionary from Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district, where allegations of sexual abuse and land grabbing have been levelled against Trinamool Congress leaders.

The CPI(M) also attacked the Mamata Banerjee government following the incident.

“Not even Kangaroo court! Summary trial and punishment by @AITCofficial thug… Literally bulldozing justice to Chopra under @MamataOfficial regime,” said CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim in a message on X.

TMC MP denies any connection with accused

Meanwhile, local TMC MLA Hamidur Rahman denied any connection with the accused and distanced himself from the incident.

Rahman said it was a village matter and not party related.

TMC district president Kaniyalal Agarwal attributed the incident to the couple's alleged illicit relationship, which did not go down well with the villagers.

He said the party would investigate the episode.

TMC spokesperson Shantanu Sen condemned the incident but also pointed out that such kangaroo courts were also common during the Left Front regime.

Police register the case

After the video of the brutal assault went viral, the West Bengal Police took notice of the incident and filed a complaint in the matter.

A senior police official said he saw the video on social media and registered a case after verification.

“We have launched raids to arrest the culprit and will promptly investigate the motives behind the act,” Islampur Police Commissioner Joby Thomas K.
