Woman found alive two days after disappearing while hiking with her dog

PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. — A missing 74-year-old woman was found alive two days after she disappeared while hiking with her dog northwest of Aspen, the PITKIN County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday evening. Pitkin.

Just before 8:45 p.m. Sunday, a person told a Pitkin County Sheriff's Office deputy that a family member, Jennifer Hearn, 74, had been hiking on Triangle Peak near Upper River Road , Sunday around 11 a.m., but had not done so. yet returned. After the initial report, a team of volunteers from Mountain Rescue Aspen (MRA) went to the Triangle Peak trailhead to search the area. They concluded the search around 2:40 a.m. due to lack of light.

Approximately 30 MRA members, a helicopter from Flight for Life, a fixed-wing aircraft from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, and a team of dogs and handlers from Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States (SARDUS) continued the search on Monday. at 8:17 a.m. Crews are focusing on Triangle Peak and surrounding areas. The search ended Monday evening and resumed at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

On Tuesday, crews focused on the talus fields and thick brush between the previous day's search paths, according to the sheriff's office. Search crews found Jennifer's dog, Tawny, at a residence near Triangle Peak around 9:30 a.m. Crews then limited their search to steep, rock-covered slopes overlooking the Woody Creek area, the sheriff's office said.

Hearn was found alive around 3:15 p.m., the sheriff's office said. She is receiving medical care. The sheriff's office has not shared details about her condition and is asking the public to “give her friends and family the space they need at this time to recover and care for Jennifer.”
