Woman dies in house fire in Greenfield Plaza area of ​​Des Moines

Fire crews responded to a fire at a home on Pilmer Drive in the Greenfield Plaza area around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday.

DES MOINES, Iowa — One person died following a house fire Wednesday in south Des Moines, the Northern Warren Fire Department said in a news release.

Fire crews responded to a house fire on Pilmer Drive in the Greenfield Plaza area around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday.

The Northern Warren Fire Department was notified that a person was trapped inside the residence, leading the department to request assistance from the Carlisle, Norwalk and West Des Moines fire departments. Warren County deputies and Carlisle police also responded to the scene.

When the engines arrived, crews found a 79-year-old woman inside the home. First responders performed CPR on the woman. Meanwhile, firefighters spotted a fire and heavy smoke on the main floor and basement of the home.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Northern Warren Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
