Woman arrested and charged in fatal Galesburg hit-and-run

GALESBURG, Ill. (WMBD) — Galesburg police arrested a woman Thursday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run who died early this morning.

According to a news release from Galesburg police, the incident happened at 11 p.m. Thursday in the 3500 block of N. Henderson Street, when officers were leaving a fireworks display near Lake Storey.


Officers responded to the scene and found a man lying unconscious on the road.

Paramedics were then dispatched to the scene and immediately took life-saving measures. The victim was transported to St. Mary's Emergency Room, where he was pronounced dead early Friday morning.

The victim was identified as Eric McKinney, 46.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect struck McKinney, who was riding a bicycle, with his vehicle and fled the scene. Police have not provided a description of the vehicle involved in the crash.

Police located the suspect and arrested her for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. She is currently being held in the Knox County Jail.

The identity of the suspect will not be released until formal charges are filed.
