Woman arrested after missing man's body found in her Ohio home

Police in Ohio arrested a 39-year-old woman on felony charges after a man's decomposing body was found in her home this week.

Josephine Torres is charged with abuse of a corpse in connection with the discovery Wednesday in her Toledo apartment.

Lucas County jail records show she was arrested Wednesday at her home near the city's South Side. She posted bond Thursday morning, records show.

According to a Toledo Police Department report, a co-worker told officers that his employee, identified as Kevin Murphy, was staying at the house where Torres lived and was missing.

The colleague had gone to Torres' home to pick him up.

“A foul smell”

When police arrived at the apartment, the home owner opened the door for police, according to the report. Upon opening, police said they “immediately smelled a foul odor.”

Inside the home, police wrote, officers found Torres in a bedroom, sitting on the bed.

“Torres responded by saying 'hello' but remained sitting on her bed,” the report reads.

The police then discovered a “severely” decomposed body in a second bedroom.

The case remains under investigation

Police Lt. Paul Davis told USA TODAY that the Lucas County coroner will work to identify the victim and the cause and manner of his death.

The case remained under investigation Friday.
