Woman arrested after driving drunk on parkway

A Long Island woman was arrested in Rockaway Park last week after allegedly driving impaired on the promenade at Beach 118th Street and Ocean Promenade.

According to DCPI, police received a 911 call regarding an individual “driving on the parkway” around 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24. At 7:15 p.m., police located and arrested the driver, who was driving a black Mini Cooper eastbound on the street. the promenade, where vehicles are not allowed to circulate.

Upon exiting the vehicle, the driver placed her hands on her head and spoke with the six officers immediately on scene. At the same time, an eyewitness, who was recording the encounter on Citizen from a nearby building, yelled at the driver, alleging she was “trying to run over people.”

“She was targeting people,” the eyewitness, identified on Citizen as “StAyLoE,” said in the video. “I looked at it with my own eyes. She was aiming at people, trying to hit them.

As a result of these observations, police arrested and charged Marjorie Latacela Yumbla, 21, of Uniondale, with first degree reckless endangerment, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 1%, driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving while impaired. per se, and driving while impaired (DWAI).

“Upon further investigation, the individual [driver] was observed with bloodshot eyes, unable to maintain balance, and slurred speech,” DCPI told The Wave. “The individual caused several people to fear death due to the speed of the vehicles and the crowded promenade.”

On Saturday, May 25, Latacela Yumbla was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges against her. While bail was requested by the prosecution, Latacela Yumbla, a first-time offender, was released on her own recognizance, and her license was suspended pending prosecution.

For reckless endangerment, a class D felony and the main charge in the case, Latacela Yumbla faces two to seven years in prison if convicted, although prison time is not mandatory. For first-time offenders, probation and other alternative sentencing options may be considered instead.

Latacela Yumbla is scheduled to reappear in Queens Criminal Court on Wednesday, July 24.
