Woman, 54, killed by stray pit bulls identified – Baltimore Sun

Police on Monday identified the 54-year-old woman attacked and killed by two stray pit bulls Friday night in West Baltimore as Sheila Jones.

Officers responded around 8:51 p.m. to the 2000 block of North Pulaski Street after receiving reports of a dog biting people. There they found two pit bulls attacking three people.

A 67-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man were bitten by a dog, but their lives were not in danger while Jones died from his injuries.

Melton Montgomery, who has lived in the area for nearly two months, said four pit bulls that were running around during the evening likely belonged to someone nearby since they were wearing collars.

Two of the pit bulls attacked Jones and chased the officers, Montgomery said. Two of the officers shot one of the dogs, Baltimore police said.

“I haven’t been bitten, but I feel bad because I’m scared,” Montgomery said. “There were four (pit bulls) and two of them were chasing the police. The police were running for their lives.

The downed dog was euthanized due to the severity of its injuries. The other dog remains in custody.

“Those two were the only ones they caught, but there are two on the loose,” Montgomery said. “We saw four dogs. I was right here and they were trying to kill.

Baltimore police did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether there were more dogs on the loose than expected.
