A mother and her 4-year-old daughter are dead after a shooting Friday evening on Florida's Turnpike in Hollywood, deputies say.

The Broward Sheriff's Office identified the mother as Beatrice Saintvil in a news release Saturday afternoon. His daughter has not been named.

An unknown suspect had shot at the car shortly after 11 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway near Mile Marker 49, just south of the Hollywood Boulevard exit, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. When Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrived, they found Saintvil and her daughter inside a car, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The car was parked on the left emergency lane.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Hollywood Fire Rescue took the woman to the hospital, where she died.

The sheriff's office has not said what led to the shooting or provided any information on potential suspects.
