Wolves hijack Chelsea plans with transfer deal for Brazilian teenager Pedro Lima

Wolves are close to completing the signing of Chelsea-linked youngster Pedro Lima.

The Blues have signed a number of young talents over the past two years and were considering a move for the 17-year-old right-back.

However, Premier League side Wolves appear to have won the race for his signature after sealing a deal with Brazilian club Sport Recife.

In a statement on

“The agreement is subject to customary conditions, including the athlete's approval of medical examinations carried out by the English club.

“President Yuri Romao and the football steering committee will detail the operation in a statement when all acts related to the company have been completed.”

The Athletic reports that Lima has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract at Wolves which can be extended for a further year, with the contract expected to cost around £12.7 million.

He is expected to arrive at the club on July 1 to complete his medical and move on, following Rodrigo Gomes and Tommy Doyle in a permanent move.

Chelsea are also said to have signed Lima with the intention of initially sending him to Strasbourg, a subsidiary club of owner BlueCo.

Blues youngsters Angelo and Andrey Santos played on loan in Ligue 1 last season to help with their development.

But the west London side look set to miss out on Lima, who made his senior debut for Sport Recife in January.

He made a total of 26 appearances for the club and also played five times for the Brazilian U17 team.

Like Wolves, Chelsea have already made their first summer signing by welcoming Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer earlier in June.
