Winston-Salem teen was swimming in Chatham County

NEW HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — A North Carolina teenager drowned while at Jordan Lake in Chatham County celebrating a friend's birthday Sunday, officials said. responsible.

The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. at Jordan Lake near Ebenezer Picnic Area A at 452 Ebenezer Road in the New Hill area, according to a news release from the Chatham County Sheriff's Office .

Bryan Guzman, 16, of Winston-Salem was swimming in a nearby creek. Guzman's brother, 18, called 911 to report that Bryan was “in distress” while swimming, deputies said.

The cove is not a designated swimming area, officials said. Bryan was later found but died.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the Guzman family during this very difficult time,” said Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson. “Our thoughts are with them as they mourn the loss of their son and brother. »

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office Victim Services Unit is meeting with the Guzman family to provide support and resources.

“Our team is dedicated to helping families cope with such tragic losses and ensuring they receive the care and support they need,” the press release said.

First responders included the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, North Chatham Fire Department, Jordan Lake State Parks and FirstHealth EMS.
