Winona man sentenced to three years in prison for gun incident – Post Bulletin

WINONA, Minn. — A Winona, Minn., man was sentenced to three years in prison for shooting another man after a fight.

Jayden Michael Jessie, 20, was sentenced in Winona County District Court on Thursday, May 30, 2024 after pleading guilty to felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

In the plea, Jessie admitted to shooting another person in March 2024 outside a Winona apartment building after a fight when someone handed her a gun.

Jessie also faces charges in Freeborn County related to possessing a firearm while ineligible for an incident in Albert Lea in which Jessie allegedly pointed a loaded firearm at another person.

According to court documents, police responded to a call for shots fired outside an apartment building on the evening of March 31, 2024. They reviewed surveillance video from the exterior of the building which showed Jessie fighting, surrounded by a crowd of spectators.

According to the criminal complaint, officers who reviewed the video found that Jessie “appears to be taking more punishment than he is dishing out.” He then walked towards someone in the crowd who handed him an object, according to the complaint. Jessie then takes a “shooting stance” and we see the crowd disperse. The video shows “dirt spatters” where the bullets hit the ground, according to the document.

Search warrants filed in Winona County document bullets recovered from the ground outside the building.

Jessie received credit for 61 days of service. He was ordered to serve two years of his sentence in custody and one year on supervised release if he was eligible and of good behavior.
