Winnebago County man on parole for OWI conviction arrested for 7th offense, uncooperative with officer

WINNECONNE, Wis. (WFRV) – A Winnebago County man who was on parole for a previous OWI conviction was arrested after allegedly “driving dangerously” and was arrested for his seventh OWI offense on Wednesday.

A release from the Winneconne Police Department says a vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Winneconne man was stopped on East Main Street around 8 p.m. on June 12.

The police officer, who stopped the vehicle for “dangerous driving”, allegedly noticed signs of intoxication during the traffic stop. Authorities say the man refused the officer's request to take a series of standardized field sobriety tests and allegedly became “uncooperative” with the officer.

The officer then learned that the man was on parole/extended supervision due to a sixth prior OWI conviction and was reportedly ordered not to consume alcohol as a condition of his parole .

Although the driver refused a standardized field sobriety test, he submitted a preliminary breath test (PBT) with a result of 0.171. The 47-year-old man was then arrested and taken to a local hospital for a blood test.

After the blood draw, the man was taken to the Winnebago County Jail and booked for Operation While Intoxicated – Seventh Offense. Officers say additional charges could also be filed with the Winnebago County Prosecutor's Office.

The Omro Police Department, Oshkosh Police Department and the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office assisted Winneconne Police with the incident.

No additional information was provided.
