Windy weather helps Blue 2 Fire grow over 7,000 acres

The Blue 2 Fire in the Lincoln National Forest has now burned 7,402 acres as it continues to be 0% contained with 643 people working the fire, as of Wednesday, May 29.

The Blue 2 Fire was ignited by lightning on May 16 just eight miles from Ruidoso.

The fire initially prompted evacuations to Lincoln County and continues to be monitored in case further evacuations are necessary.

Areas that have since been evacuated include Bonito Lake Road, Forest Service Road 107, Forest Service Road 108, Highway 127A, Villa Madonna Subdivision, Loma Grande and Nogal Canyon Rd.

Neighborhoods that should prepare for evacuations include Sierra Vista Subdivision, Sun Valley Subdivision, Angus (west of 48, south of 37), Cora Dutton, Ski Run Rd., West Highway 48 to Cora Dutton , Roadrunner, Magado Creek and Ranchman's Camp.
