Wind-driven wildfire rages in Napa County north of Calistoga; evacuations ordered

Evacuations were ordered due to a wildfire raging in Napa County, north of Calistoga, Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The county sent out an alert around 10:30 a.m. about the fire in the Old Lawley Toll Road area, initially saying no evacuations were underway or structures threatened.

About an hour later, the county said mandatory evacuations were in effect for:

  • NPA-E113 area, north, south and east of Lake County Highway and west of Palisades Road
  • NPA-E103 area, north of Old Lawley Toll, south of Highway 29/Oat Hill Road and east of Lake County Highway

Evacuation warnings have been issued for:

  • NPA-E104 area, north, south and east of Livermore Road and west of Oat Hill Road
  • NPA-E105 area, north of Lake County Highway, south of Livermore Road, east of Lake County Highway and west of Oat Hill Road

Cal Fire named it the “Toll Fire” and said about 25 acres had burned as of 11:14 a.m., with winds picking up in the area.

Thick smoke billowed across the area and firefighters used seven fixed-wing aircraft and three helicopters to fight the blaze.
