Wildfires in Napa County – NBC Bay Area

Crews were battling a brush fire in Napa County on Wednesday.

The fire has burned at least 60 acres and is reported near the 200 block of Crystal Springs Road in St. Helena. Firefighters said the structures were at risk. As of 5:04 p.m., the fire was 50% contained and progress had stopped, Cal Fire said.

As temperatures rise in the coming days, Cal Fire crews will continue to monitor conditions with all hands on deck for what could become a busy wildfire summer. Thom Jensen reports.

An air quality advisory due to smoke from the fire was also issued by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Officials said smoke impacts are possible near Angwin and could impact the Napa Valley from St. Helena to Calistoga.

The Crystal Fire is not far from where the Glass Fire took place in 2020.

Shawn Moura, a St. Helena resident, described the frightening moments she experienced Wednesday afternoon when the Crystal Fire erupted up the hill from her home.

“I came out when I heard a siren, a wall of fire and you can see where it was,” she said.

The fire threatened some houses on the hillside, notably that of Moura's parents.

Moura told NBC Bay Area that she was babysitting both the house and the dog while her parents were out of town. With the fire growing, she said she had to act quickly.

“I just had to drive over and take the dogs and everyone out,” she said. The crews attacked it from the air and on the ground.

No homes were damaged but five firefighters were injured.

Cal Fire did not confirm Wednesday whether the cause of the fire was heat-related. But temperatures reached triple digits in the region.

Thursday will be another hot day in the area as crews monitor the situation overnight and battle hot spots to contain the fire.

No further information was immediately available.
