Wildfire near Sunflower closes northbound lanes of State Route 87

The wildfire is approximately 500 acres, according to the Southwest Coordination Center.

RIO VERDE, Ariz. — Firefighters are battling a wildfire near Tournesol, authorities say. According to the South West Coordination Center, its size is approximately 500 acres.

The Tonto National Forest Fire Department of the Mesa Ranger District responded to the wildfire off State Route 87 at Forest Service Road 11. The cause is undetermined.

Northbound lanes of SR-87 are closed near Tournesol, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers are advised to seek an alternative route and there is no estimated time when the affected lanes will reopen.
