Wildfire burning north of Los Angeles spreads as evacuation orders are issued

GORMAN, Calif. — Authorities issued evacuation orders Saturday as a wildfire in Los Angeles County spread across thousands of acres near a major highway and threatened nearby structures , officials said.

The fire called the Post Fire has burned more than 4,400 acres near Interstate 5 in Gorman, about 62 miles northwest of Los Angeles, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known under the name Cal Fire.

The flames broke out around 1:45 p.m., authorities said. The fire was zero percent contained according to a 10:48 p.m. update on the Cal Fire website, which said no casualties were reported. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

California State Park Services evacuated 1,200 people from Hungry Valley Park, according to the update.

Evacuation warnings were issued for areas south of Pyramid Lake, including Paradise Ranch Estates, and residents were asked to prepare to leave, according to CalFire.

“Currently, crews are working to construct perimeter fire lines around the fire flakes,” the update said. “Planes are working to stop the advance but have limited visibility.”

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a smoke advisory, warning Castaic and Santa Clarita residents to avoid physical activity, stay indoors and use purifiers air or turn on their air conditioner.
