Who is Gary Wayt? Amber Portwood's fiancé missing

The fiance of Teen mom The star, Amber Portwood, has gone missing and hasn't been seen for days.

Gary Wayt was last seen Sunday in Bryson City, about 179 miles west of Charlotte, North Carolina. Portwood, 34, and Wayt were reportedly staying at a nearby cabin before he disappeared.

The reality TV star reported her fiancé missing on Monday, with the sheriff's office informing her. The US Sun, “We are still trying to find him at the moment, he has been missing since June 9.”

News week contacted the Swain County Sheriff's Office and MTV, which produces Teen mom, by email for comment.

Wayt is 39 years old and drives a gray 2009 Nissan Rogue with Indiana state license plates. He is 6' 01″ tall, weighs 205 pounds, is bald with brown eyes and was last seen on Arlington Avenue in Bryson City, according to the local police department's Facebook page.

Portwood has yet to publicly comment on Wayt's disappearance, but an anonymous source reportedly said so American weekly she was “distraught”.

Portwood and the troubled Wayt began dating late last year and got engaged in May after Wayt's debut on Teen mom.

She is the mother of Leah, 15, with her ex Gary Shirley, and of her son James, 6, with her ex Andrew Glennon, but does not have custody of either child.

His ex Shirley posted about Wayt's disappearance and asked fans to help find him.

“We need to find this man @carolebaskincat @kristina_shirley3,” Shirley wrote on Instagram and tagged Tiger KingThey are Carole Baskin and her wife, Kristina. “Prayers for a safe return. #findgary.”

Other Teen mom cast members also shared the opinion of Wayt's disappearance.

“Please help find Amber's fiance as he is a MISSING PERSON,” Briana DeJesus wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.

Portwood was jailed for 17 months after being convicted of domestic battery against Glennon in 2019.

In 2011, she pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic battery, stemming from a fight with Shirley, and in December of that year was arrested for a probation violation.

The following year, in May, Portwood was sentenced to five years in prison for drug crimes.

She opened up about her previous drug use and how it affected her relationship with her daughter, Leah.

“Before prison, I never thought about Leah. I was addicted to drugs and didn't care about anything else. Prison saved my life and gave me a second chance at life. being a mother,” she told InTouch.
