Howell Police Chief Mike Dunn provided an update Saturday on a shooting that occurred the day before at Metro Studios Ink, saying that “there are several conflicting reports currently being released in the media and on social media that contain incorrect and speculative details.”

Officers responded to a threatening complaint filed at Metro Studios Ink, where it was reported that the victim, identified as Sean Thompson, 46, of Howell, was on the premises causing a disturbance. There is a known history of disputes between staff at the business and Thompson, according to Chief Dunn.

The statement continued: “While the events of last night remain under investigation, there is no indication at this time that Mr. Thompson was armed, but threats of violence have been made.”

“As a result, the suspect in this incident fired a shot, striking and killing Mr. Thompson.”

The shooter was placed under arrest and booked into the Livingston County Jail. The suspect's identity has not been released pending formal arraignment.

Chief Dunn's statement continued: “This remains an ongoing investigation that requires several additional tasks as it is in its early stages. Howell Police will provide additional information as it becomes available.”

“We would also like to reiterate that this is an isolated incident and has no connection to the Balloonfest taking place this weekend in the city.”
