Six people, including two police officers, were injured Thursday evening in a shooting in Minneapolis, authorities said.

Officers responded to “an active incident” in the Whittier neighborhood, where several people were injured, Minneapolis police said. The incident was a shooting, according to the ATF and a witness who spoke to CNN affiliate WCCO.

“The situation continues to be fluid,” the ministry said in a Facebook post.

State police are responding to the scene, Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Jill Frankfurth told CNN.

“The State of Minnesota stands ready to provide whatever resources are necessary. I pray for all the first responders on the ground who are working to keep the community safe,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said in a statement on X.

A witness, Reuben Molina, told WCCO he was watching television with his girlfriend in a third-floor apartment when he heard a “bang” followed by more bangs. “Then we heard it over and over again, in rapid succession, and then she and I were like, 'Oh, those are gunshots,'” Molina said, adding that he thought the sounds were coming from the inside the building on the floor below them.

Molina said they left the unit to see what was happening and Molina saw two people coming out of the back of the building, one heading north while the other headed south .

At that point, Molina said, the couple went down to the second floor and that's when they heard a woman on the phone saying two people had been shot.

When Molina left the building, he said he continued to hear gunshots and saw “people shooting.”

Asked if he saw any officers firing their weapons, Molina said, “several individuals.” I couldn't say officers or anything.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
