Where is Josh Duggar today? Everything about his prison sentence

In May 2022, Duggar was sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison for two counts of willful receipt and possession of child pornography.

It's been three years since Josh Duggar was arrested for possession of child pornography.

The old 19 Kids and They Matter The star was first accused of downloading “child sexual abuse material” in May 2019 following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigators (HSI).

The investigation was opened a few years after he was accused of sexually assaulting five young girls, including two of his sisters, when he was a teenager. Later in 2015, he admitted to cheating on his wife Anna and being “addicted” to internet pornography.

Following his arrest in April 2021, Duggar was convicted in December 2021 of two counts of knowingly receiving and possessing child pornography and sentenced the following year, in May 2022.

In 2019, Homeland Security Investigators (HSI) began investigating Duggar. According to a May press release from federal prosecutors, Duggar “allegedly used the internet to download child sexual abuse material… [he] was allegedly in possession of this material, some of which depicts sexual abuse of children under the age of 12, in May 2019.

In November 2019, Homeland Security agents visited the car dealership where Josh worked as part of an investigation. That same month, Duggar and his wife Anna welcomed their sixth child.

Duggar was arrested on April 29, 2021, just days after his wife Anna announced she was pregnant with their seventh child. After his arrest, he was held without bail in an Arkansas jail.

The next day, he appeared in court in the Western District of Arkansas federal court via Zoom, where he was charged with receipt and possession of child pornography. During his court appearance, he pleaded not guilty to both counts against him: one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

What was Josh Duggar's sentence?

On November 30, 2021, Duggar's trial began in a federal courtroom in Fayetteville, Arkansas. A verdict was reached on December 9, 2021, when a jury found Duggar guilty of two counts of knowingly receiving and possessing child pornography, also known as child sexual abuse material.

His conviction came five months later, in May 2022: he was sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison and to pay fines and special assessments of $50,100.

Duggar's legal team later appealed her conviction to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, however, the appeal was denied in late 2023.

Where is Josh Duggar now?

Duggar is currently serving his sentence at FCI Seagoville Federal Prison in Texas. He was originally scheduled to be released in August 2032, but his sentence was extended by nearly two months in May 2023 due to a contraband cell phone, USA today reported.

As a result, its release date is set for October 2032.

What Did Josh Duggar's Family Say About Him?

Although several members of Duggar's family have supported him amid the controversy, others have spoken out against him. His sister Jill Duggar Dillard — who was one of his multiple alleged sexual assault victims alongside sister Jessa Duggar Seewald — told PEOPLE in September 2023 that she still harbors anger toward him. Sister Jinger said she didn't think her older brother had “really changed” since he was sentenced – a sentence her brother Jason called “fair”.

His cousin Amy Duggar King also spoke out against him, telling PEOPLE that she didn't believe he was capable of changing his past ways while serving his prison sentence. Although she's not sure what she hopes Josh gets from his time behind bars, she added, “I want him to stay as long as he can because he can't do anything.” harm to children.
