Westland man charged in Olive Garden shooting in Midland | Crime

Court records show Robert Russell Monit, 41, faces 11 charges, including one count of assault with intent to kill, one count of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, two counts of felony firearm, six counts of assault/resistance. /obstructing a police officer and one count of aggravated assault against a family member.



MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) – A Westland man accused of shooting a Saginaw woman inside the Olive Garden in Midland on Sunday was arraigned in court Monday.

Court records show Robert Russell Monit, 41, faces 11 charges, including:

  • One count of assault with intent to kill.
  • One count of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent.
  • Two counts of felony firearm.
  • Six counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
  • One count of aggravated domestic violence.

Monit is accused of recidivism. In July 2009, he was convicted of second-degree child abuse.

Police went to the Olive Garden on Eastman Avenue in Midland after receiving a report of a shooting inside the restaurant just after 4 p.m.

When police arrived, they learned the suspect was still inside the restaurant. Midland police said the suspect resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.

A 41-year-old Saginaw woman was found with a gunshot wound to her neck. She was taken to MyMichigan Medical Center, where she is receiving medical treatment.

Police add that this was an isolated domestic incident.

A $2 million cash or surety bond was set for Monit. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is scheduled to return to court June 18 at 1 p.m. for a probable cause conference.
