Western Tidewater Regional Jail employee charged with break-in

The criminal complaint says Perry and his accomplice knocked the woman's door off its frame.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A Western Tidewater Regional Jail employee faces a felony charge stemming from an alleged break-in in Portsmouth on May 19.

Jamaica Perry is accused of breaking into another woman's home while armed, according to court documents.

Court documents say Perry, along with another person, are accused of breaking into the woman's home in the late hours of May 19, 2024.

According to the complaint, Perry and his accomplice broke down the woman's door, yelled profanities and demanded the woman “get out” after she ran into a closet with her children to hide. The criminal complaint says Perry and his accomplice knocked the woman's door out of its frame and it could not be secured.

Court documents also indicate that everyone involved knows each other, indicating that the alleged victim has a child with Perry's ex-boyfriend.

Perry and his accomplice left the house after the alleged victim grabbed a gun and pointed it at Perry and his accomplice to protect himself, according to court documents.

In the documents, the alleged victim also accuses Perry and his accomplice of calling and texting her over several days, with Perry allegedly threatening to shoot the alleged victim in the face.

Police arrested Perry on May 20. Western Tidewater Regional Jail later placed her on administrative leave.

Perry is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on June 25.
