Westbrook teen faces robbery, theft and aggravated assault charges

The incident was reported on May 28 and the boy was taken into custody on June 1 after being spotted by police working at the annual Westbrook Together Days event.

WESTBROOK, Maine — A Westbrook teenager faces several charges stemming from a report in late May by a juvenile who claimed he was “pistol whipped” and robbed on Main Street.

Westbrook police said the juvenile reported the incident on May 28, alleging he was robbed and hit by a person holding a gun near the location of the former Cornelia Warren Outdoor Pool, which closed its doors in 2020.

The department launched an investigation and was able to identify a suspect, Westbrook police announced Sunday in a post on their Facebook page.

A few days later, the community held its annual Westbrook Together Days event hosted by the Westbrook-Gorham Chamber of Commerce in the Riverbank Park area. The events began on Friday May 31 and ran throughout the day on Saturday June 1.

Detailing officers spotted the suspect on June 1 and “quickly moved to arrest him without incident,” officials said in the post.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld because he is a juvenile, was identified as a 17-year-old boy from Westbrook.

The boy was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and theft and taken to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, the state's only juvenile correctional facility.

Despite the initial report of the incident, no firearms-related charges were listed by police in the release.
