Welding shop owner accused of shooting at customer's van

The owner of a welding shop in Kane County is accused of shooting into the vehicle of a customer he was angry with, officials with the Kane County Sheriff's Office said.

The customer allegedly left the van at Pan Man Welding on Route 64 in Virgil Township to perform work on the vehicle, according to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office. While work was being done on the van, the customer returned several times to pick it up, but each time he was chased away by store owner Todd Nord, 62, of Maple Park, officials said in the communicated.

During his last visit to the store, the customer noticed that his vehicle was heavily damaged by bullet holes, the press release specifies. When Kane County deputies investigated June 3, Nord admitted he was the one who damaged the vehicle because he was angry with the customer, officials said.

Nord is a convicted felon who is not allowed to possess firearms. On June 6, law enforcement searched his home and business, according to the release. Officials said they did not find any firearms, but did find cocaine, unknown pills, various ammunition and a World War II-era STEN Mark III submachine gun kit, according to the release.

The unknown pills will be sent to the Illinois State Forensic Laboratory for testing, the release said.

Nord was charged with one count of armed violence, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, one count of possession of a firearm without a FOID card, one count of criminal damage to the property, one count of reckless discharge of a firearm and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, officials said.
